the Verizon advertisement where they are on the streets showing people pictures of the coverage other phone companies have across the U.S on a big white poster board. They had AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and other once. The coverage was represented by dots and the more dots the picture had the clearer the person could tell it was a map of the U.S. Because other phone companies didn’t have that much coverage the people couldn't tell it was a map but when they showed the coverage of Verizon people could clearly till it was a picture of the U.S map because it had more dots representing more coverage. The appeal of this advertisement was to show people that Verizon when compared to all the other phones had be coverage then all the other phone companies so people after seeing this should switch to the phone company that clearly has the best phone coverage across the U.S. As an AT&T customer, I was surprised to see how much little coverage they had in America from watching this advertisement. It made me reflect on time when I tried calling my family in different States and I had difficulty hearing them.
In this advertisement  Not only is Verizon trying to show how wide their network coverage is, but at the end of the commercial, the give you an option of a trad in or upgrade from your existing network.

  1. I was surprised when I saw all the maps that were shown. Most were only sad representations of the US while others seemed to just be random paint drops splattered over a white canvas. It is certainly a very clear and direct way for Verizon to display its superiority over other companies to their current and potential customers. Since statistics can confuse or simply bore people with all the numbers involved this commercial was a clever and simple way for Verizon to get its point across. By adding the option of trading in or upgrading at the end of the commercial Verizon tries to reel in customers that may be swayed by their commercial.

On another note, thank you for teaching me what that psychiatrist inkblot test is called. I was always curios as to what it was called and know I know that it's called the Rorschach test.

  2. not only does that commercial state that Verizon has more coverage buit it has a little hint of American Pride. you said that when people were showed the coverage of other cell phone companies that you couldn't tell that it was a map of the united state3s, well when i think about it, the fact that Verizon was the only phone that had the most coverage and outlined the map of the united states made it seem as though their company was more American! i may be reading too much into it but that's just what i see. food for thought i guess.

When I first saw the Verizon ad, I was astounded by the clever idea of making a map out of the points of cellular network points. This ad was relatable to anyone who owns a cellphone. Verizon figured out that the audience would be hooked on to the commercial by using visual stats to present their data. It definitely persuaded me and got the point across of how broad their coverage is. They presented their superiority while at the same time shaming other companies that had less coverage.

  4. I constantly hear about how each different phone company is better than all the others. And for me its hard to tell which is better. Even cricket now has nation wide coverage and I remember it didn't years ago. All phone companies try to sell you on the fact that they are better than all the others. I have seen this commercial before and like all the other companies that's exactly what they want you to believe. They have coverage all over. So traveling isn't a problem if you have Verizon.
